Fleece to Fabric

(All Ages) How are clothes made? Where does wool come from? In this new three-part series, Fleece to Fabric, see what is involved in taking the wool from the sheep at Farrel-McWhirter Farm and turning it into a finished, wearable garment.

May 8: (All Ages) In Shearing, Part 1, we’ll watch FM’s resident sheep get their summer haircuts, and then you’ll have an opportunity to get up close and personal with their fleece afterwards. Come join the fun! This class is FREE and all ages are welcome to attend. Program will start in the Small Animal Barn for shearing and then the fleeces will be moved to the Museum, located adjacent to the Big Red Barn.

June 7: Part 2, we’ll learn how wool is cleaned, combed, and spun into yarn. Some of FM’s resident Master Woolmakers (the SHEEP!) might even stop by to say hello! Come join the fun! This class is FREE and all ages are welcome to attend. Program will be held outside in the Museum, located adjacent to the Big Red Barn.

July 5: Part 3, we’ll learn how yarn comes together on a loom to become woven fabric. Some of FM’s resident Master Woolmakers (the SHEEP!) might even stop by to say hello! Come join the fun! This class is FREE and all ages are welcome to attend. Program will be held outside in the Museum, located adjacent to the Big Red Barn.
