Sky Valley Heritage Hunt

Adventure is closer than you think.

Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary by exploring the history, scenery, and small-town charm of the Sky Valley through this free, self-guided Heritage Hunt.

Travel through seven participating Highway 2 communities:

Monroe
Sultan
Startup
Gold Bar
Index
Grotto
Skykomish

At each stop, you’ll discover historic landmarks, local stories, public art, scenic locations, and hidden gems that many travelers drive past every day.

Using your phone, you’ll scan QR codes at official Heritage Hunt stops to check in, learn about each location, answer a short trivia question, and track your progress as you explore.

Whether you’re planning a family outing, a weekend road trip, or simply looking for a new reason to explore the Highway 2 corridor, the Heritage Hunt is designed to help you experience Sky Valley in a whole new way.

Registration is free and includes:
Free team registration
A self-guided adventure you can complete at your own pace
Interactive historical stops across seven communities
Trivia, photo opportunities, and local discoveries
Progress tracking throughout your journey
Eligibility to earn a commemorative America 250 Challenge Coin upon successful completion, while supplies last

The Sky Valley Heritage Hunt is appropriate for families, couples, friends, history enthusiasts, photographers, and anyone who enjoys scenic drives and discovering places with a story to tell.

The adventure runs throughout the summer, so you can explore all at once or spread your journey across multiple trips.
