Need a mini-break?

When was the last time you and your partner got away for a little “alone time”? Chances are, not recently enough.

When the daily grind of working and parenting tests your limits, it’s time to connect as a couple. Getting away for a day (or even just one night) is a surefire way to recharge. You’re probably both overdue for some pampering as well.

Luckily, our area has several fantastic hotels and spas that will have you saying “ahhh” in no time. Trust us: A little indulgence might even make you a better, or at least a more relaxed, parent.

Why spend your precious time traveling when you can just catch a Lyft downtown? The award-winning Kimpton Hotel Vintage is a deluxe haven that strives to offer the amenities of an out-of-town getaway in the heart of the city, with nightly tastings, cork headboards and other whimsical touches.

If you’re up for seeing the latest theater performances or a concert, a stroll through the Pike Place Market, or a delicious downtown culinary experience, its super-central location right on Fifth Avenue can’t be topped.

If you prefer to stay in, the spa offers several in-room options (yes, they come to you!), including a revitalizing hot stone massage or a lavender dreams treatment that will have you rediscovering your bliss in no time.

If you feel like leaving the city behind but still want to be fairly close to home, the Willows Lodge in Woodinville could be the perfect solution.

Featuring two-person soaking tubs and stone fireplaces, the rustic-chic rooms foster those warm and snuggly feelings. You can go for a tour and taste at any number of nearby wineries, among them Matthews Cellars and Novelty Hill/Januik. Or if you’re feeling indulgent, splurge on an unforgettable meal at The Herbfarm.

If you prefer to stay on-site, you can dine at the well-regarded Barking Frog. The spa provides lovely pampering options as well, including an ultra-relaxing detoxifying wrap and couples massage.

Salish Lodge

Not only does Salish Lodge & Spa have magnificent views of mighty Snoqualmie Falls, but it also seems to specialize in romance, with spa treatments and lots of weddings.

All of the comfortably appointed rooms come with gas fireplaces and spa-like showers featuring dual heads or soaking tubs, and many have commanding views of the Snoqualmie River.

We suggest relaxing and unwinding in the award-winning spa, which features a broad array of body treatments inspired by the lodge’s on-site garden, or book a fireside massage.

Dining choices on-site feature delectable local fare, and the famous brunch is a must-do, complete with biscuits drizzled with honey produced from the hotel’s hive.

The Columbia Gorge is a beautiful setting for an intimate trip, and the Sagecliffe Resort & Spa (which some people may remember as Cave B Inn) delivers the romantic goods with an array of guest accommodations, including cavern rooms (built into the cliffside), luxurious suites, private “Cliffehouses,” and even a rugged back-to-nature experience in a desert yurt (available to book during the warmer months).

Enjoy local hikes and bike rides in the gorgeous gorge to get away from it all. The luxurious spa offers a host of treatments, including several types of massage and signature facial treatments.

Tendrils, the on-site restaurant, serves up delectable farm-to-table fare, so there’s no need to leave the grounds if you’d prefer to stay in.
