Beverly Kingston, Ph.D., directs the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her research focuses on addressing the root causes of violence by creating the conditions that support healthy youth development and safer, more connected communities.
She has led more than $50 million in large-scale school and community initiatives and research studies, including a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Youth Violence Prevention Center of Excellence and a National Institute of Justice randomized trial on school safety. Recognized with the 2026 ARIS Impact Goals Award, her work bridges the gap between research and practice by partnering with schools and communities to implement evidence-based programs, practices and policies that promote safety, belonging and well-being.
Dr. Kingston has published widely on comprehensive public health approaches to violence prevention, school safety and community well-being. Her work has been featured by Katie Couric Media, Rocky Mountain PBS, The Washington Post, The Conversation, HuffPost and The Denver Post.
She is also the author of the forthcoming memoir Soulshine: A Memoir of Courage, Healing, and Hope, which explores healing, authenticity and the importance of creating cultures of care and belonging.
