Danielle Einstein

Over the past 30 years, Dr. Danielle Einstein has supervised, taught and investigated the optimal delivery of cognitive behavior treatment in university, hospital and private settings, including running treatment trials at Westmead Hospital. She has worked with adolescents, developing an internet program for adolescents suffering with comorbid anxiety and depression together with Dr Carolyn Schniering and Professor Ron Rapee (funded by Australian Rotary Health) and writing three face to face programs for use in secondary schools. These form part of large research trials run at Macquarie University. Danielle’s interest in the effects of uncertainty are featured in her book with Dr. Judith Locke, “Raising Anxiety: Why our good intentions are backfiring on children (and how to fix it).

Danielle’s latest published research articles explain the connection between social media use and anxiety, and also examining what school programs can do to help 13 to 16 year olds. She was an invited expert at the South Australia and NSW Social Media Summits in October 2024 and is invited to inform the Australian government on the impact of social media on mental health. She was the first Australian Clinical Psychologist to call for a school phone ban and she continues to be at the forefront of the conversation about technology use and mental health. She has just visited the UK where she spoke at 10 events to politicians at Westminster, Heads of School across the UK, researchers and health practitioner at a conference she helped convene at Kings College, students and the UK media.
