A special holiday for doughnuts? We are totally on board. It's National Doughnut Day on Friday, June 1, 2018, and some local shops are offering sweet deals and other fun. So whether some afternoon sugar will provide the pick-me-up you need, or a frosting-covered bribe for the kiddos will get you a few moments of peace (they can't argue with doughnuts stuffed in their mouths, right?), here's where to go.
National chain Krispy Kreme offers a free doughnut to anyone at any of its shops in the U.S. or Canada for National Doughtnut Day. No purchase necessary.
Original House of Donuts, a South Sound mainstay, offers free doughnuts (with a hole) to the first 1,000 customers at its Lakewood and Tacoma shops on Friday, June 1. Don't be late — they open at 6 a.m.! Kiddos can pick up a doughnut-themed coloring sheet through May 31 and enter to win cool prizes!
Frost marks the holiday with its annual doughnut-eating contest taking place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 1, at the Mill Creek Town Center location. Want to enter? Aspiring doughnut gobblers can register online for one of three age categories; ages 6–12, ages 13–17, and ages 18 and older. Winners earn a year's supply of doughnuts plus "eternal doughnut glory!"
You won't get anything free at outlets of local shop Mighty-O Donuts, but you can feel good when you buy a doughnut at one of its locations Friday. Mighty-O is donating 10 percent of Friday's proceeds to the organization Lunchdebt.org.
Local purveyor Top Pot Doughnuts is not doling out free doughnuts either, but collecting donations for Northwest Harvest: nonperishable food items and cash donations accepted. Make a donation and you'll be entered to win the Top Pot "office hero" prize, a monthly award of doughnuts and coffee. The downtown Seattle flagship store promises a doughnut-eating contest as well. Contact the store for details.
We don't have any Dunkin' Donuts outlets here in the Northwest (why is that?), but alert your friends and relatives in other locales that Dunkin' is offering a free classic doughnut with the purchase of any beverage, at participating shops and while supplies last, on Friday, June 1.
Is your fave local doughnut shop doing something to mark National Doughnut Day? Or just want to give it a shout out? Post in the comments. Happy doughnut eating to all.
