Families heading to Seattle’s Pacific Science Center this fall will notice what’s new, what’s gone and what’s creepy-crawling onto center stage — and those who scurry quickly can take advantage of a limited-time discount on tickets (through Nov. 20).

After a month-long closure, PacSci reopened Oct. 23 with two brand-new exhibits: “Big Moves,” which explores the fascinating world of motion, mechanics and human innovation, and “Spiders: From Fear to Fascination,” a wildly popular traveling exhibit. “Spiders” invites visitors to step inside a web of wonder with dozens of live spider species, immersive displays and a peek into the surprising science of arachnids. Kids can play spidey games, see demonstrations with live spiders and even design their own spider and bring it to life (on-screen). “Spiders” is here until mid-April 2026.

In addition to the new exhibits, PacSci is undergoing a broader refresh that includes updates to its Live Science Stage, and some changes longtime visitors will notice right away. The beloved (but aging) touch tidepool has been removed and the marine animals have been moved to the MaST Center Aquarium, part of Highline College in Des Moines. Families can continue to visit them for free during MaST Center's Discovery Days

Additionally, the Tots Zone, long a staple for families with preschoolers, has been scaled down to make room for new interactive experiences. These updates reflect its “commitment to continuous improvement for our guests,” the center says.

With the swap from hands-on marine life experiences to first-hand spider encounters, the updates signal a new chapter for the institution as it balances nostalgia with innovation. And for dino-loving kids, take heart: At least one dinosaur will stay put as part of a new exhibit dedicated to PacSci’s history.
