To celebrate the Arboretum’s 90th birthday, we’re enhancing this year’s Earth Day work service event with free tram rides, a pollinator education station, and more!

Saturday, April 20, 2024

  • 9 AM to 12:30 PM ~ Volunteer Work Service Event
  • Noon to 4 PM ~ Education Station & Food Truck at Graham Visitors Center
  • 2 to 4 PM ~ Free Tram Rides on Arboretum Loop Trail
  • Pre-registration is required

Each year, the Arboretum Foundation, UW Botanic Gardens, and Seattle Parks and Recreation co-host an Earth Day community and volunteer event. Help restore the Arboretum by removing invasive ivy and blackberry in natural areas, and by mulching and weeding the plant collections!

WHERE TO MEET: Washington Park Arboretum, 2300 Arboretum Drive East, Seattle, WA 98112. Arrive at the Graham Visitors Center parking lot. Check in is 9 a.m. at Crabapple Meadow.

PARKING DETAILS: At the Graham Visitors Center. our parking staff and signage will direct you to the correct parking area.

CHECK IN & SITE ASSIGNMENT: After arriving at the Visitors Center, please follow the directions from staff/signs to Crabapple Meadow, where you will check-in. There will be a large group welcome, and then volunteers will meet their site leader and team and walk out to their worksites together.

BRING WITH YOU: Please bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated, food to help sustain you, and gloves to work in*. Please wear long pants, bring a layer or a raincoat, and closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Please come dressed for the weather; this event will happen rain or shine!

PROVIDED: Tools and training.

EDUCATION STATION & FOOD TRUCK: NOON TO 4 PM

  • Learn about pollinators from UW Botanic Gardens educators.
  • Meet with local community groups that specialize in sustainability.
  • Buy lunch from a local food truck and enjoy a picnic in the Arboretum!

FREE TRAM RIDES: 2 to 4 PM
Hop-on Hop-off Tram Rides Around the Arboretum Loop Trail

  • To celebrate Earth Day and the Arboretum 90th year, UW Botanic Gardens will run their electric tram around the two-mile Arboretum trail from 2 to 4 p.m. Members of the public are welcome to hop on and hop off at any location around the loop, at no charge.
