Freedom Day at NAAM

Calendar/Event Details

Each month NAAM hosts a free admission day to spotlight moments throughout history that have worked to advance freedom for all.

On November 30, NAAM’s Freedom Day series honors the 100th birthday of Shirley Chisholm—a trailblazer who broke barriers and redefined political representation. Freedom Day will feature a compelling fireside chat with local changemakers, centered on the “glass cliff” a phenomenon that focuses on the unique challenges faced by Black women in leadership.

On December 5, join us at NAAM on December’s Freedom Day for FREE admission all day as we celebrate and honor Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. On December 5, 1935, Dr. Bethune founded the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW).  Under her leadership, the NCNW grew to over 850,000 members. Today, the over 4 million members of the NCNW continue the work begun by Bethune.

Freedom Day is a FREE admission day at NAAM offered once a month that provides a variety of community activities, museum activations, and programs for individuals and families of all ages to enjoy at no cost.
