Ikebana Demonstration and Drop-In Studio

Saturday, May 23 @ 12 p.m.–3 p.m.

Join Ikebana International Tacoma-Olympia Chapter 147 for a two-part program:

1.      On the library floor: A formal demonstration (about 45 minutes) to be conducted by one of Ikebana International 147’s instructors. The demo will begin with an introduction that provides a little history and connects the artistry of ikebana with the culture of Japan. The audience will then watch an arrangement being created from start to finish.

2.      In the library meeting room: A drop-in studio activity (about 2 hours) that invites patrons of all ages to make their own miniature ikebana arrangements with real flowers that they can take home. Members of Ikebana International 147 will be present to offer gentle guidance and lots of encouragement. Our give-away ikebana containers will consist of small, recycled water bottles. We will display various pre-made ikebana arrangements around the room for those visitors who would just like to look at examples of the art form, but don’t want to actively participate.
