The Main Library Book Club meets monthly on a Thursday for lively and insightful discussions. We read a variety of fiction and nonfiction titles--check our calendar to see each month's selection. New members are always welcome. This month we're reading the 2026 One Book, One Coast selection, "They Called Us Enemy" by George Takei. Copies are available through the library, and the library will be hosting a series of events at both the Main Library and the Evergreen Branch. May 2026's book is: "They Called Us Enemy" by George Takei.
The graphic novel written by author, actor, and activist George Takei chronicles Takei’s childhood experience in the Japanese concentration camps created by the United States during World War II. Takei frames the narrative with a modern-day talk delivered at the home of Franklin D. Roosevelt, who presided over the country during the war and issued Executive Order 9066, which empowered the US government to create the camps and forcibly detain Japanese American citizens.
Books for discussion can be picked up at the monthly meetings. After that, remaining copies will be at the Main Library Circulation Desk.
