Molecular Scissors

Saturday, April 4 @ 6 p.m.–8 p.m.

Restriction enzymes, or “DNA scissors,” have enabled fast and easy diagnostics of DNA sequences for decades. There are over three thousand varieties of restriction enzymes, all isolated from bacteria to cleave DNA at sequence-specific sites. The use of restriction enzymes is critical to many laboratory techniques, including genetic engineering. Come learn all about this vital technology, how it works, and how we use it to manipulate DNA. We recommend taking the Intro to PCR workshop first, though beginners are welcome!
