For its sixth annual al resco production, Olympia’s String and Shadow Puppet Theater invites you to step into the grandeur and glamour of a Gilded Age opera house. “Night at the Grand Opera” is a whimsical, candlelit romp that blends history, humor and imagination in classic String and Shadow style.
Inspired by the lavish opera houses of the 1870s–1890s, this original play-within-a-play takes audiences both onstage and far behind the scenes of an eccentric opera about the Trojan War. Expect colorful characters — from flamboyant performers and quirky opera-house staff to a king, a band of industrialists, and even a few larger-than-life insects.
Narrated by the witty Fly on the Wall (Anthony Szabo), the performance promises the troupe’s signature mix of puppetry, comedy and visual wonder.
