Hike our campus at sunset, and then join us at our campfire for s’mores, drinks and community cozy vibes!
Gain a whole new perspective and experience our trails in the goldenhour of summer! As the day fades, hit the trails with your family and friends for a self-guided exploration. Look and listen differently at this time of day, as animals and plants respond to the shifting photoperiod. Our staff naturalists will be out and about to show you some highlights. Our faves: the bats that fly from our ravine, swallows catching aerial prey ‘on the wing’ and the music of the American robins and Swainson’s thrush. We will be listening for treefrogs trying to stay moist, concealed amongst the leaves, and juvenille owls, fledged only this summer!
At 7:30 PM, please follow your map back to Main Campus for your campfire! We’ll have s’mores and water coolers set up for you Community Campfire is for all ages! The IslandWood staff are known for doing an impromptu skit or two… join us for some old fashioned family fun!
This event is for all-ages!
Families welcome! We extend a special welcome to all our Summer Camp families! Your camper loves to show you around the trails as the “tour guide.”
One trail only will accommodate all-terrain strollers.
Infants on laps, or in baby carriers (Baby Bjorn, backpack, Ergo, wrap, etc.) are free of charge.
Wear shoes appropriate for a light hike such as sneakers or hiking boots.
Flashlights and headlamps are not needed, as sunset occurs at 8:30 PM. If you wish to bring one for your exit back to your car, you may, however the path from the Friendship Circle to the parking lot has lighted posts.
As always, we love dogs, but please leave yours at home unless they are an ADA-defined service animal.
