Secular Humanistic Shavuot & Book Swap

Sunday, May 31 @ 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.

Join the Circle for a Secular Humanistic Shavuot service & book swap on Sunday, May 31st, 2026 in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood of Seattle to round out the school year with us! This is a wonderful opportunity for non-theistic Jewish families, and for open-minded families looking to introduce their children to new cultures, to engage Jewish culture without sacrificing their philosophical values.

What is Shavuot? Shavuot commemorates the issuing of the Torah at Mount Sinai, according to myth, as well as the first grain harvest of the season. It’s traditionally celebrated with rigorous Torah study and dairy-rich foods. As Secular Humanistic Jews, we secularize & modernize the celebration primarily by broadening “Torah study” out to celebrations of Jewish literature & academic study (graduation).

So, Join the Circle! for cheesecake & blintzes, a Jewish book swap (bring as many or as few as you like, to lend or give away!), and a graduation / recognition celebration for our Sunday School students!

This event is open to all ages! Come hang with us!

Interested in a secular Jewish Sunday School experience for your child? Show up as early to this event as 9:30am to shadow our final day of classes and see what your family is missing! Can’t make it that early, but still curious? Our Education Director, faculty & current Sunday School families will all be in attendance at this event for Open House engagement!
