Storywalk at Alderwood Park: César’s Cerulean Surprise

Sunday, Oct. 11 @ 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m.

Recurring Event (See all)

Walk along and read the Storywalk at Alderwood Park during the park’s open hours. The September/October title is César’s Cerulean Surprise by Jenny Lacika.

César asks to borrow his sister Gabi’s cerulean crayon, but Gabi does not know what cerulean is and decides to identify the color by asking yes-no questions. It’s a window into an all-too-familiar sibling dynamic, a slice of life many readers can identify with. Along with the subtle math hints, both Gabi and César sprinkle in Spanish words. Further explanation can be found in an author’s note, along with interactive tips for adults, showing how to encourage the math connections during reading.
