Wandering and Wondering – A Butoh Performance

Sunday, July 26 @ 1 p.m.–4 p.m.

Experience butoh performers from DAIPANbutoh Collective move through Kubota Garden and respond to its landscapes in evocative and poetic interpretive movement.

What is butoh?: Butoh is an avant-garde dance which erupted out the turmoil of post WWII Japan. Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno are known as the founders of this genre, which combines dance, theater, and improvisation with influences of Japanese traditions and German Expressionist dance to create a unique beauty and grotesquerie.

Location: The program will take place throughout Kubota Garden. Due to the nature of interpretive performance, sites will vary. Volunteers at information tables are available to help you locate the performers.
