World Migratory Bird Day Community Celebration

This is a drop-in event. No advanced registration required.

Each night during peak migration, thousands of birds move quietly over Washington—tiny travelers navigating by stars, wind, and instinct on journeys that span continents. By morning, many settle into places like Seward Park to rest and refuel, turning our local forests into vital waypoints in a much larger story.

Join us for a park-wide celebration of World Migratory Bird Day featuring hands-on activities for all ages. Start at the Seward Park Audubon Center to pick up a map and learn how to participate, then explore the day’s offerings at your own pace.

Community Science Stations (Around the Park) 12:00 PM–3:00 PM Visit stations in different park habitats where naturalists will help you identify and log birds using eBird and Merlin Bird ID while learning how community science helps protect migratory birds.

Garry Oak Room All day, drop-in Explore educational displays about migratory birds, the incredible journeys they make, and how scientists and birders track their movements. Kids can also enjoy a bird-safety coloring activity.

Eagle’s Nest All day, drop-in Relax and enjoy a screening of Birds on the Move, Audubon’s four-part short-form documentary series celebrating migration and the birds that connect our world.
