Learning 2020

This year’s Learning issue lands in a back-to-school season like none other we’ve experienced in our lifetime. In our feature, screen-time consultant Emily Cherkin advises us to focus on what we can do, from emphasizing and modeling executive function skills to being “rocks in the river” for our children — solid, present and as prepared as possible.

From nifty strategies for creating a home environment that’s conducive to learning to plotting out your teen’s college search, preparation is the name of the game. And if you’re already noticing some gaps in your child’s distance-learning curriculum, we’ve rounded up some complementary remote learning resources to supplement arts, health, language and library learning — even PE!

For our littlest “students,” we checked in with experts for tips on best ways to support kids (and their worried parents) who are transitioning back to a child-care routine.
