Due for a refreshing walk after a long drive, take a break on the Yakima Greenway, where more than 20 miles of paved pathways stretch out alongside the Yakima River. At various stops you'll find parks, fishing lakes, picnic areas and playgrounds. For a close-up view of the city, ride one of the Yakima Valley Trolleys. This rail system has been preserved from the early 1900s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

For dinosaur aficionados, Granger Dinosaurs let kiddos climb these prehistoric creatures. Find the friendly statues scattered throughout the town of Granger. Find Granger about 30 minutes south of the city of Yakima.

The Central Washington Agricultural Museum makes for another fun stop. It features a furnished pioneer cabin, collections of tools and tractors and a farmstead. Find it in nearby Union Gap.

Some of the best produce you’ll ever taste comes from Yakima, so a stop at a U-pick farm should be in order. If you're lucky you might find baked goods for sale, made with freshly picked fruits or berries.

Eat: Hop Town Pizza, Mel’s Diner, Miner’s Drive-In

Retreat: Howard Johnson Plaza, Best Western Vintage Valley Inn
