Crystal Geode

Ready, set, rocks!

If you’re looking for a fun and sciencey craft project for the kids, try these beautiful eggshell geodes. These sparkly rocks are a fun educational experiment to show kids how crystals form.

This project does use hot water, so an adult will need to do some of the steps, but the kids can definitely help. The rocks take a few days to form, and the kids will be full of anticipation to see how they turn out.

Supplies needed

  • Eggs
  • Epsom salt
  • Food color
  • Microwave safe bowl (a clear glass bowl works best so that you can easily see when the salt is dissolved)
  • Egg carton
  • Glue
