Scary movies and kids: Parents, think twice!

51bsn-iyj8l__sl500_aa300_It took me one second to decline this invitation on my daughter's behalf: A teen party featuring screenings of "The Exorcist" and "The Blair Witch Project." While apparently fine for some 14-year-olds, slasher/horror flicks just aren't for my girl. Lucky for me, she knows it, and didn't put up a fight.

But plenty of kids won't speak up when scariness gets to be too much - until nightmares or troubling thoughts pop up. Some kids like to be scared - but only so much. Some kids are really too young to separate fantasy from reality. And some kids just don't need extra ugly images implanted into their little growing brains.

So is your child old enough for "The Exorcist"....or for that matter, Goosebumps? Common Sense Media comes to the rescue once again with great tips and a parents' guide to Halloween-themed movies.
