Bremerton WestSound Symphony - Birds of a Feather

Calendar/Event Details

Bremerton WestSound Symphony opens their 77th season, sponsored by Kitsap Bank and Bremerton Kitsap-Airporter, with a powerhouse program of feathered classical favorites. On Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 7:30PM, experience the Firebird, Swan Lake and the Thieving Magpie in the lively acoustics of Bremerton’s newest community venue, the Marvin Williams Center, on 725 Park Avenue. Single tickets are $28 adults, $15 students, and $10 youth - ages 18 and under. 10% discount for military. Season packages also available. Purchase tickets online at bremertonwestsoundsymphony.org, at the door, or in person Tuesday-Friday, 10AM-4PM at the Symphony office, located upstairs in the United Way Building (645 4th Street, Suite 206, Bremerton), or by calling (360) 373-1722.

The Firebird is one of the most dramatic of all ballet scores, and the piece that launched Igor Stravinsky’s career at the beginning of the 20th century. The dynamic and bold, invigorating energy of this music must be experienced live.  The sumptuous and lush orchestration of all the Firebird’s dances--in particular, the sheer power of the Infernal Dance--set a new standard for 20th Century orchestral music.  Our aviary theme begins with Rossini’s Overture, la gazza ladra.  Also in the first half of the concert, go back in time with Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, perhaps the most dramatic ballet score of the 19th Century. As is befitting opening night of the season, Lt. Commander Richard Asche will lead the National Anthem and Musician First Class Derick Polk will conduct John Philip Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever.

All ages show. No one knows your child better than you! Families are welcome and encouraged to attend Bremerton WestSound Symphony concerts.  If your child needs a break, the concert can be watched and heard from the lobby area of the Marvin Williams Center.

**There will be a wine reception in the lobby immediately following the concert.
