Maddie goes along with whatever her best friend Peggy does. Then Peggy starts teasing classmate Wanda Petronskis about her funny last name and the faded blue dress she wears everyday. When Wanda claims to have a hundred dresses, her classmates think it is an outrageous lie and demand she describe each one in detail. Maddie doesn’t agree with the bullying but doesn’t speak up out of fear of getting teased herself. Wracked by guilt after Wanda’s family moves away, Maddie realizes her silence can be just as hurtful and takes a different stand when her classmates find a new target.
