Parents know that the choices local leaders make — from school funding to city safety — have a ripple effect into our homes, classrooms and communities. That’s why the 2025 Seattle Education Forum is creating space for families to speak up and be heard.
On Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 5:30–8 p.m., families, students and neighbors are invited to Rainier Beach High School to share a meal and conversation with the candidates running for Seattle Mayor, City Council, King County Executive and Seattle School Board.
This forum takes a more conversational approach than a typical campaign event. Instead of formal speeches, candidates and community members will sit down together to discuss questions, concerns and ideas about the future of Seattle’s schools and neighborhoods.
Event organizers have confirmed the following candidates are attending:
- Seattle Mayor: Katie Wilson, Bruce Harrell
- King County Executive: Claudia Balducci, campaign representative of Girmay Zahilay
- City Council, District 2: Adonis Ducksworth, Eddie Lin
- City Council, Position 8: Alexis Mercedes Rinck
- City Council, Position 9: Dionne Foster, Sara Nelson
- Seattle School Board, District 2: Kathleen Smith
- School Board, District 4: Laura Marie Rivera
- School Board, District 5: Vivian Song, Janis White
- School Board, District 7: Carol Rava, Jen LaVallee
The evening will feature a buffet of halal food catered by Salima Specialties, free for those who attend. The forum is hosted by the Alliance for Education, Black Education Strategy Roundtable, League of Education Voters and Southeast Seattle Education Coalition, alongside community partners such as El Centro de la Raza, Seattle Council PTSA and the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle. RSVP ahead of time to reserve a seat.
