Rock Island Campground near Leavenworth
Find it: Rock Island Campground is located along Icicle Creek in the Wenatchee National Forest near Leavenworth.
Details: Find 20 first come, first served sites here, potable water and vault toilets. One of a string of no-reservations campgrounds up the Icicle Creek Canyon, this gem gives the feel of camping on a small island because of the way frothy Icicle Creek twists around it in a semi-circle. Nearby, hike the short and sweet Icicle Gorge Trail to peep wildflowers, warblers and water-carved granite rock.
Plan B: Ida Creek is on the small side, but spacious Johnny Creek Campground has 56 sites and is the last campground before the pavement ends on Icicle Creek Road.
