December 2020

Even in the best of years, the holiday season is a paradoxical balancing act of stress and joy. That is truer than ever in this pandemic year. Though so many of our celebrations and traditions must by necessity be altered or suspended entirely to keep our families safe, we offer ideas for how to create new pandemic-proof rituals that will engender the “season’s meanings.”

In this month’s feature, “Mom-and-Pop Culture,” we explore the parenting perspectives of transnational parents.

And if these colder, wetter days have you feeling cooped up, we have a message for you: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.” In addition to our December holiday play list, we present a foul-weather guide to PNW fun (just add Gore-Tex!) and 16 “get up and go, go, go!” toys and games for kids of all ages.

We wish you a very joyful, healthy and safe holiday season!
