Bonus parks

Three terrific state parks are super handy for Eastside-area families, but they're also very popular and could get crowded due to their convenient locations. They are Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah, Saint Edward State Park in Kenmore and Bridle Trails State Park in Kirkland. Lake Sammamish and Saint Edward are among parks that have reopened with capacity limits. But if you're super strategic and have a crew of early risers, these parks can make for great fresh-air destinations. Note that at Bridle Trails you'll encounter park users on horseback, who have the right-of-way on trails. Alert your kids if you think they might be intimidated by horses and it's extra important here to follow the rule to keep your pooch on a leash.
