The Federal Way School District is featured in the Harvard FINE newsletter for fostering district wide family involvement strategies.
The district has established a district-level Family Partnership Office to promote a consistent and integrated approach to family engagement. The district's Family Partnership Advocate (FPA) coordinates the work of the Family Partnership Office. The FPA participates in weekly meetings with the assistant superintendents and curriculum director to discuss the district
The FPA relies on the District Parent Committee, made up of mostly parents and some teachers, to model what parent partnerships should look like at the school level. Parents from this district-level committee help shape the annual performance goals of the Family Partnership Office, create the agenda for parent meetings and trainings, and assist the schools in their efforts to communicate with families.
