August

  • Chamber Creek Park Kite Festival. There's flying a kite in the park and then there's this annual gathering of serious kite enthusiasts, showing off their skills and leading the first 250 kids who show up in free kite-making.
  • Umoja Fest. This Seafair-sanctioned community festival celebrates the local music, food, dance, fashion and families with roots in the African diaspora.
  • Evergreen State Fair. In late August and early September, the fair in Monroe revs into action with animals on display, midway rides and the rodeo.
  • Salmon-watching at Ballard Locks. From July to October (best viewing in August and September), the fish ladder at the locks offers a spectacular view into the life cycle of our iconic fish.
