For kids hungry to get their hands on tech, Apple has announced the schedule for its free Apple Camps taking place at area Apple stores this summer. But parents, do not delay: Free camp sessions fill up super-quick.

Free camps are for ages 8–12 and families can choose from among three topics this year: beat-making and songwriting with the program GarageBand, coding with Sphero Robots or storytelling with the video app called Clips.

Schedules for Apple Camps resemble more what we'd call a workshop vs. a camp. Camps meet two to three days out of the week, either Monday-Wednesday-Friday, Tuesday-Thursday-Friday and sometimes just Tuesday-Thursday.

Times are generally mid-morning for 90 minutes or early afternoon for 90 minutes on each of the days the camp session meets. In other words, if your child is in full-time camp or care, it'll be hard to make these work.

To sign up — which you should do right now if you want a spot — go to the Apple Camp link, select "Washington" from the state drop-down and then select your preferred store location to see camp availability. Puget Sound-area Apple stores include U-Village, Bellevue Square, Southcenter Mall, Alderwood Mall and the Tacoma Mall.

Good luck.
