Honore: What's baking in Ballard

Published on: December 30, 2013

An already kid-friendly slice of Ballard is just getting better and better. Honore Artisan Bakery, four weeks old this Saturday, set up shop in the tiny Northwest 70th business district, right next door to The Peapod and Briar Patch Books, and across the street from art studio Space to Create.

The bakery -- Paris-chic with minimal decor and dark wood accents -- sells Lighthouse coffee, fresh-squeezed OJ and gorgeous pastries ($2-$3). The day I visited, I sampled an orange-scented, custardy carmele and a danish brushed with apricot jam and heaped with ripe fruit. (And ate every crumb. Delicious.) Cape Cod chairs outside are a good place to hang out after storytime at Briar Patch Books or while your kids take a class at Space to Create.
