Introduction to Middle-Eastern Dance and Music Workshop -- A Benefit for Ruby

Published on: December 30, 2013

Ever wanted to try your hand (your midsection?) at Middle Eastern dance? So have we! And here's your chance to check it out with the kids.

On Sunday, Dec. 4, local dancer extraordinaire Elisa Gamal (full disclosure: In her other life, Elisa works at ParentMap) and world music duo Hejira will introduce families to Middle Eastern music and dance -- and all ages, abilities and genders are welcome. Translation: Bring the kids for an afternoon of fun exercise -- and cultural learning -- followed by an improvised performance by Gamal and Hejira.

The class is a benefit for Ruby, the teenage daughter of Couth Buzzard co-owner Theo Dzielak. Bring some cash to donate to Ruby's medical care -- she was diagnosed with lymphoma last August and is undergoing chemotherapy, and that's ruinously expensive. Give back to a local small business owner and his family, and have a body-shaking good time while you're at it.

When: Sunday, Dec. 4, 1-2:30 p.m.

Where: MKG Seattle, 10722 Fifth Ave. N.E., Seattle.
