The circus is in town! With its latest album In Tents, Seattle mainstays Recess Monkey present a joyous, upbeat album recorded at Teatro ZinZanni. This album is pure party music and will get the kiddos moving (warning: do not attempt to do anything but dance while playing In Tents!).
Much like the circus, this album is spectacular, bizarre and fun. Kids will enjoy silly lyrics like “She’s a human cannonball” and “Oh yeah, we’re just like twins.” The heavy, skankin’ beats of “Human Cannonball” recall the ska stylings of '80s icons Madness (remember, “Our house/In the middle of the street?). “Bouncy House" has a hard-rocking intensity.
The album mellows out slightly around track 9 but keeps your attention until the last song with elaborate storytelling, rhythmic changeups, and a sharp sense of humor. As an added bonus, the CD jacket includes a silly story of how “three Seattle teachers ran away with the circus,” alongside fun circus photos.
