Seattle family weekend

Published on: December 30, 2013

So it’s Earth Day weekend. And there’s snow on the ground. I’ll bet the organizers of the dozens of work parties planned for today had nightmares last night about throwing a bash and having all the guests go AWOL.

If you haven’t packed away your winter gear yet, layer up and get outside – there are tons of ways you can help restore area parks and greenbelts with your kids. (If mucking around outdoors isn't your scene, don't panic: Lots going on indoors, too.)

I mentioned last month that Chauni Haslet, the owner of All for Kids Books and Music, was retiring, and it’s official – the store will be closing at the end of June. But before it does, there's some partying to be done. Drop by today, starting at 3 p.m., to say thanks and so long. (And psst...author Sherman! Alexie! is also dropping by to read from his new book for teens, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. That's at 1 p.m.)
