This meeting of Parents and Friends of Tacoma Public Schools (PFTPS) will feature a presentation made by a representative from Tacoma Public Schools' Finance Department. The presentation will include information on how schools are funded, how the McCleary decision may impact school funding in the future, and how the proposed bond (if passed) would benefit Tacoma Schools. PFTPS founding member Kim Golding said, “We want to give community members a chance to learn about the funding of schools without working through a proposed budget or sitting through a school board meeting.” Everyone is welcome to attend. PFTPS is a grassroots group. The membership is comprised of parents, community members, past and present education employees, grandparents, community activists and more. PFTPS also welcomes high school and college students, civic leaders, retired school district employees and neighborhood leaders who are interested in joining. Members are expected to support the mission and attend at least two meetings per year.
