Barney, Q and Siku’s home is ready! The Aquarium’s new harbor seal exhibit opens Saturday, June 1 with an 8:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new exhibit features increased water depth, more dry resting area for the seals to enjoy, acrylic viewing panels on three sides, and seating for up to 100 visitors. The renovation includes major upgrades to the structural integrity of Pier 60, where the harbor seal exhibit is located against the backdrop of Puget Sound. The additional space also allows for the Aquarium to expand their current collection of harbor seals and institute a harbor seal research-breeding program. Wild harbor seals can be found throughout Puget Sound, often resting on rocks, reefs, beaches, logbooms, docks and floats. [Note: The Aquarium is closed all day Friday, June 7.]
