Momotaro is the most popular children's story told in Japan. An old woman finds a huge peach floating in a river. When she and her husband try to cut it open, a baby emerges. They name the baby Momotaro and raise him as their son. He quickly grows up to be a warrior and bands together with a dog, a monkey and a pheasant to go on a mission to defeat the Oni (demons) who have been terrorizing his village.
The story was adapted by Jean Enticknap and Sue Ennis, who also wrote the score and 3 original songs. The traditional Momotaro song is also featured in the show. Tabletop Bunruku-style puppets made by Brian Kooser and Jean Enticknap, and origami puppets folded by Kathleen Imanishi and Jean Enticknap. Puppeteers Ben Burris, Zane Exactly and Gina Wilhelm play multiple roles in the production directed by Jean Enticknap.
