Titanoboa: Monster Snake

Calendar/Event Details

46974

In a Colombian coal mine, scientists discovered 60-million-year-old remains of the largest snake in the world, Titanoboa cerrejonensis.
Measuring 48 feet and weighing up to 2,500 pounds, this massive predator could devour a crocodile. Featuring a full-scale model, "Titanoboa" delves into the discovery of this enormous reptile.

The Burke is supplementing this traveling Smithsonian exhibit with a display about snakes that are alive in Washington state today.

The exhibition is a collaboration between the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit Services, Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.
