Octopus Intelligence:Untangling a Distributed Brain

Calendar/Event Details

Octopi, Octopuses, or Octopodes? However you say it, the octopus has fascinated humans for thousands of years. With no bones, a nervous system mostly in their arms, and remarkable camouflage abilities, they’re perhaps the best example of alternative forms of intelligence. However, little is known about basic octopus behaviors…until now.

New technologies are enabling researchers to rapidly expand our knowledge by investigating octopus behavior in greater detail than ever before. To discuss, Dr. David Gire highlights how labs around the world are putting these new approaches to work, current findings on how octopuses think, and how members of the community can get involved with this fascinating research.
