The mission of SeaburySquared: The Center for Gifted Education, is to expand educational opportunities, support and resources for gifted children and their families in the South Puget Sound region. We offer year-round Seabury-style after-school, weekend and vacation educational experiences for youngsters through eighth grade and – all open to the community.
We are offering two classes geared toward 2nd-4th grade students:
Powerful Pollinators
Delve into the beauty and power of pollinators such as bees, butterflies and birds. Learn about the science and art of pollination and the fascinating facts behind how it works. Learn how to identify beneficial native bees and make a bee house for your garden. Create an insect sculpture from natural materials and/or a watercolor representation of your favorite insect. Learn why honeybees love hexagons, how a musical note causes the release of pollen, and make seed bombs to attract your own local pollinators.
Magnificent Math Art
Do you love geometric shapes, color and design? Explore math through art by creating a Frank Lloyd Wright-style piece of “stained glass.” Explore symmetry, balance points and movement with Alexander Calder-style face mobiles, and swing a sand-filled pendulum to make a Buddhist-inspired geometric mandala design.
