Calendar/Event Details

With many parents concerned about how to make the this year’s Halloween fun and safe for their young monsters and ghosts, the Great Washington Camp-In Spooktacular celebrates the holiday and Washington state parks with an engaging program that brings the spine-tingling excitement of Halloween right to your living room or backyard.

This special Spooktacular edition features greetings from Parks Commissioner Mark Brown, campfire stories, a full moon program from State Parks Ranger Troy Carpenter from the Goldendale Observatory, a presentation on bats, spiders and Halloween creatures from Ranger Laura Busby, Shadow Hand Monsters from award-winning magician Louie Foxx and holiday-themed songs and outdoors-cooking demonstrations from Chef Corso. Participants can also download and print a free Townsend’s bat mask and a Halloween puzzle that will be part of the evening program. Camp-In Spooktactular will also feature a live chat function to allow real-time audience participation.

To join in, “costumed campers” (including pets!) are invited to set up ‘haunted’ tents in their homes or yards, snuggle in their sleeping bags, and tune in on Friday October 30 at 6:30pm. The Washington State Parks Foundation is also hosting a photo contest “Night of the Haunted Tent.” Submit photos for a chance to win a $75 REI gift certificate! The first prize will be announced at the end of Friday’s Camp-In and more prizes will be awarded for entries on Halloween and Day of the Dead.

Additional information with YouTube channel, the mask, puzzle and recipe downloads and presenters list is forthcoming. See you on October 30 at 6:30PM!
