Need a hero? Our April issue is here!

Published on: December 30, 2013

Hot off the presses from ParentMap World Headquarters (a.k.a. Alayne's house) comes our annual "superheroes" issue; our love letter to eleven of the most deeply wonderful people you'd ever want to meet.

Once a year, we get to consider the work of (often unsung) local heroes - some so humble, we have to nudge them into the spotlight. In fact, most of this year's eleven superheroes were surprised to be singled out; after all, they are just doing what they've always done, guided by some shining inner light to help hurt, suffering or needy children.

Meet the guy who's passionate about giving special-needs families a voice - on the radio. The doctor whose persistence resulted in laws that protect thousands of kids from accidental poisoning. The educator who is putting powerful new technologies into the hands of kids of color. And the quiet, dignified surgeon whose camp has given thousands of special-needs kids the best summers of their lives.

Superheroes, indeed. Wait'll you meet 'em!
