It’s said that nothing in this world is certain, except death and taxes. Well, I know a third certainty: your child will outgrow those jeans you swear you just bought them before you can finish reading this sentence.

The folks at Target know this too, and thankfully they have a solution. This year Target is announcing the first official Denim Take Back Event, just in time for back-to-school shopping! Here’s how it works:

  • Between Aug. 4–10 you can drop up to five used denim items from any brand in any condition, in marked boxes in Target stores.
  • You’ll receive a 20 percent promo code via Target Circle.
  • Redeem the promo code between Aug. 4–10 and receive a one-time, 20 percent discount on your entire denim apparel purchase from Target. Amazing!
  • You can shop for your new denim at one of Target’s nearly 2,000 stores, online or via the Target app.

This event is another great way Target shoppers can help reduce waste. It builds on the success of Target’s Car Seat Trade-in program, which has recycled 2.6 million car seats and 39.7 million pounds of materials since 2016!

So clean out your kid’s dresser today (and yours) and get ready to say goodbye to old denim and hello to a discount and some new duds, all while doing your part to reduce waste. Who could ask for more?
