Spring is a great time to clear out closets for a fresh new start. If you happen to have old car seats you no longer need, don’t miss out on Target’s biannual car seat trade-in event. Car seats can be traded in at any Target store Sunday, April 27, through Saturday, May 10, 2025. Find a Target location near you on the website.

Instead of sending your expired or damaged car seat to a landfill, bring it into a Target store and in exchange, receive a 20-percent-off Target Circle Bonus toward a new car seat or baby gear purchase. When you drop off your car seat or base, use your phone to scan the QR code on the box (which will be located near Guest Services), then tap “Add to Target Circle Bonus.” Your 20-percent-off coupon will be in your wallet in the Target app until it expires on May 24, or you redeem it twice (yes, twice!).

Materials from the old car seats will be recycled by Target’s partners to create new products such as pallets, plastic buckets, construction materials, carpet padding and select Brightroom items. Since this program launched in 2016, nearly 50 million pounds of car seat materials have been recycled! Last year’s car seat trade-in event was the largest ever, recycling nearly 440,000 car seats.

If you discover more old items you need to get rid of, check out our article about awesome recycling programs. You’ll find options for recycling toys, tech items, baby carriers and more. Not only will you be cleaning up your house, but you’ll also be helping the environment.

More ways to go green:
