Lummi Totem Pole Journey

Calendar/Event Details

53768

Native activists continue to raise the moral voice for climate justice. Join Lummi Nation House of Tears carvers with Earth Ministry/WAIPL at St. Mark's Cathedral to bless Q'al, a healing Totem Pole that honors our shared values. We'll celebrate Lummi Nation's victory at Xwe’chi’eXen (Cherry Point) and continue strengthening alliances in defense of tribal sacred lands and waters.

With blessings all along the way, the Lummi are traveling nearly 5,000 miles with this 22 foot totem pole at the request of the Grand Chief in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This journey will bring together, honor, and strengthen relations between tribes, people of faith, civic leaders, and activists all along the way. Together, we stand up to proposed fossil fuel megaprojects and lay the foundation for equitable climate action.

It's not every day a totem pole roles up to the Cathedral lawn, so save the date for this inspiring celebration on August 25!

Sponsored by Earth Ministry/WAIPL, Sierra Club, and St. Mark's Cathedral
