Local Seattle area author Dori Jones Yang releases her newest children’s historical novel, The Forbidden Temptation of Baseball on August 15th. To celebrate, she will be featured at a book signing and author meet & greet event at Brick & Mortar Books on August 26th at 4 PM.
Dori’s novel, ideal for young readers ages 10-15, focuses on the 1870’s Chinese Educational Mission, where the Emperor and government of China sent 120 boys, ages 11-14, to the United States to learn about industry and technology in American schools and universities. Her book looks at a fictional pair of brothers taking part in this experience and imagines the cultural differences the boys would face in their lives in the US. She highlights how the Chinese students were forbidden from playing baseball (for fear it would make them too Americanized) yet many of the students could not resist the temptation to play this exciting game, which is now just as popular in China as it is here in the US today!
Come by and meet Dori to learn more about The Forbidden Temptation of Baseball. All are welcome.
