Bits and Pieces: Building a Story From Scraps with Courtney Bird (Online)
A squid falls in love with the sun. A frog falls in love with a princess. A man falls in love with a ring. In each story, the protagonist goes to increasingly extreme lengths to attain the unattainable. In this class, we’ll use a traditional folk structure employed by Ben Loory and discussed by Italo Calvino to play with what structure means while we write our own crazy, weird, fractured love stories. Our conversations will take us on a journey through allegory and fairy tales and the symbolism of objects. Our writing will take us into our own beautifully wild imaginations.
