In this class, students of all levels of drawing experience will explore the fundamentals of graphic storytelling as taught by an experienced professional cartoonist. From the visual side of the medium, topics will include character design, expressions, page layout and cartoon symbols; writing prompts and exercises will provide inspiration for both imaginative and autobiographical pieces. We’ll also look at examples of expertly crafted comics from notable creators. Students will have the opportunity to share work and get feedback by posting to the secure and easy-to-use site, Padlet. The sessions will wrap up with an optional zine exchange and class comic book anthology.
