Virtual: Take Control - 7 Steps to Simplify Your Family and Work Life

Calendar/Event Details

Too much to do? Too many tugs on your heart and your time?

Working moms and dads often want to reduce the stress that can happen when they have a busy family life and big work commitments.

Oftentimes parents find that being stressed does not help their growing family or their effectiveness at work.

Parents often wonder if they can reduce stress.

When parents are stressed, they may find that their life’s obligations are overwhelming. They may find that they:

  • Want to have a better work-life balance/harmony.
  • Want to manage work deadlines even when there is pressure to get home early.
  • Are overwhelmed by all that there is to do.
  • Have a chaotic family life.
  • Are wondering how best to parent when they are stressed.
  • Have a hard time getting the dishes and the laundry done.
  • Have a hard time getting to the grocery store and getting dinner on the table.
  • Are stressed physically.
  • Are more emotional during times of stress, have a ‘short fuse.’
  • Are not getting enough sleep because they are up worrying about all that they have to do tomorrow and the next day and the next.
  • Need support as they work towards a less stressful family and work life.

Simplifying one’s family and work life is possible. By minimizing life’s stressors, parents will:

  • Manage the time requirements of work and family more easily and more effectively.
  • Care for themselves and their well-being.
  • Care for their family in a more encouraging and effective way.
  • Feel better physically. Feel less stressed.
  • Feel calmer. Feel more in control. Reduce chaos.
  • Be less reactive, will have a ‘longer fuse.’
  • Be better able to manage life’s challenges.
  • Be more flexible when necessary.
  • Have more time for family fun.
  • Have more time for relationships in the family and with friends.
  • Find more joy at work and with their family.
  • Be happier.

Simplifying is different for each person. For some it could mean adjusting the family schedule; for others it might mean prioritizing what happens and with whom. What does “simplifying” mean to you?

This upcoming talk will outline the 7-step process. Begin by asking: "What is possible?" "What do you need to simplify your family and professional life?"

What would a simpler and less stressful life be like for you? For your family? This talk will help you create a happier family and work life.

***One important note: being overwhelmed is not the same as feeling overwhelmed.

Feeling overwhelmed or being depressed can be a mental health concern,

so please contact a mental health professional if that is happening.

This talk will be led by Jennifer Watanabe, a long-time parent coach and a retired instructor from Bellevue College in Washington state where she taught parenting classes for over 20 years. She is a teacher, a coach and Positive Discipline Parenting Educator.

During her many years of working with parents, Jennifer has seen first-hand many wonderful parents face hurdles parenting the way they had hoped due to being stressed and overwhelmed. These workshops came about as a way to support and guide parents as they work to reduce the stress in their family and work life.
